New fitting and calibration centre opens in Watford

As part of a major ongoing investment to further improve service capability, National Windscreens has opened a new fitting and calibration centre in Watford.

This new centre is one of the company's UK-wide network of 108 fitting and calibration centres, meaning that, on average, a UK motorist is never more than 20 minutes or 11 miles away from a technician. The new centre will play a key role in helping National Windscreens continue to lead the response to changing technological needs in the automotive glazing sector.

It is also home to one of our new training centres which will ensure that, as more and more Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are being developed, our technicians will have the required skills to carry out calibration.

“Many ADAS work through cameras mounted on windscreens which means that, should a replacement be needed, calibration should also be carried out to ensure these features continue to work as intended.

“With predictions that 40% of all vehicles will have ADAS fitted as standard by 2020, and with the majority of manufacturers stating calibration work is best carried out in workshop conditions, opening this new centre further confirms our commitment to retaining a UK-wide network.

“The training centres will be especially important in ensuring that, as new car models and ADAS are developed, National Windscreens technicians are able to continuously have their skills updated so that motorists can be assured of the best possible service.

“The new centre at Unit 5, Watford Trade Park, Greycaine Road, is located within three miles of the M1 (Junction 5) and M25 (Junctions 20 & 21), two of the UK’s busiest motorways, so we are expecting it to prove very popular,” he added.

Sean Hurley is the new manager at the Watford fitting and calibration centre, supported by Gary Stafford, responsible for administration. Lee Powell and Stephen Hastings are heading up the training department, providing development for new and existing technicians and dedicated training on ADAS.
