The impact of ADAS technology to be highlighted at the Commercial Vehicle Show 2018

Alt text not availableThe impact of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) on the light commercial vehicle sector and the need for essential maintenance of this technology will be highlighted by National Windscreens at the Commercial Vehicle Show 2018 at the NEC, Birmingham, between 24-26 April.

After investing more than £2 million in ADAS technology across its network of 108 fitting and calibration centres in the UK, National Windscreens has become a world leader in the calibration of ADAS cameras, a technology that is set to see significant growth in use among fleet, private cars and light commercial vehicles over the coming years.

On its stand (4D50), a team from National Windscreens will be on hand to discuss ADAS calibration and the need to meet the exacting requirements of vehicle manufacturers after the refitting of a windscreen.

In addition, visitors to the stand will be able to enter a competition to win a thrilling experience driving a Radical SR3 RS around one of the UK’s most famous circuits at Silverstone, Brands Hatch or Donington Park.

“We’ve undertaken a significant ADAS calibration awareness campaign over the past 18 months and with at least 40 per cent of all vehicles in the UK predicted to have ADAS fitted by 2020, many of these will be light commercial vehicles,” said Alistair Carlton, technical manager at National Windscreens.

Alistair adds, “For the commercial vehicle sector the technology is making driving safer, helping reduce accidents and reducing injuries. But it is not ‘fit and forget’ technology. There is an essential maintenance requirement, such as after an accident or when a windscreen is replaced, needed to ensure the assistance systems continue to work correctly.

“Visitors to our stand will be able to discuss ADAS calibration and why it is imperative it is calibrated correctly and professionally when windscreens are replaced. They will be able to talk to our team of experts and understand the benefits provided by National Windscreens, not only when it comes to ADAS calibration, but also when it comes to windscreen replacement generally.

“In the face of this growing demand, we do not believe it should be necessary for any driver to make two visits to a workshop; one for replacement and one for calibration. This is costly and inconvenient for fleets of all sizes.

“There is also the concern that if the vehicle continues to be used on the road between the replacement and calibration appointments, then the ADAS safety systems may not be working as intended at that time. National Windscreens remains the only company able to provide such nationwide coverage with 108 fitting and calibration centres offering a one-stop service for replacement and calibration.”
