National Windscreens goes the distance to replace coach glazing

A recent 722 mile round trip to Unst in the Shetland Islands is proof of just how far National Windscreens is willing to go to ensure customers can access its high quality windscreen replacement and repair services.

Alt text not available Two technicians from the independently owned company’s fitting centre in Glasgow made the 16 hour journey from Aberdeen to Unst, the most Northerly inhabited island in the UK, to replace the windscreen and four side bay windows on a coach owned by P&T Coaches.

The Baltasound based company provides a range of services to the local community of approximately 700 residents as well as regular tourists. In addition to fuel, motor repair services, and car and bike hire, P&T usually provides its own vehicle glazing service, but on this occasion the job required specialist skills and equipment due to the weight of the windscreen.

National Windscreens’ Regional Operations Director, Andy Rae, takes up the story, “We have extensive experience in replacing bus and coach glazing, which as you might imagine, is a bit different to working on cars and smaller commercial vehicles. We were delighted to be able to offer our services to P&T Coaches, despite its remote location.

“This is the first time we have carried out a job on Unst and we’re pleased to report that the replacements all went exactly to plan meaning the vehicle was up and running again in a matter of hours.”

National Windscreens operates the largest fitting centre network in the UK, including eight in Scotland. 108 centres located between Redruth in Cornwall and Elgin in the County of Moray hold stocks of the most frequently needed replacement windscreens, enabling the company to offer an industry leading ‘time to serve’.
