National Windscreens was recently awarded 4 stars in the Eco Stars Scheme in recognition of its commitment to making valuable contributions to sustainability.
ECO Stars encourages companies to run fleets in the most efficient and green way. The scheme provides recognition for best operational practices and guidance for making improvements. The ultimate aim is to reduce fuel consumption which naturally leads to fewer vehicle emissions and has the added benefit of saving money.
Members are awarded an ECO Star rating based on an assessment of their current operational and environmental performance. The assessment is based on six key pillars which make up fleet operational efficiency. Measures that can be adopted include: fleet composition, fuel management, driver skills development, vehicle specification & preventative maintenance, IT support systems and performance monitoring & management.
National Windscreens takes various measures to ensure its systems and processes are as economically friendly as possible. It monitors fuel usage and the vehicles have up-to-date tracking systems to show idling, speeding, eco driving and hard braking. All vehicles less than one year old have start stop functionality and a regular maintenance programme to improve fleet efficiency.
The nature of National Windscreens means that it will always have a large fleet, so it will ensure it continues to help reduce pollution and improve air quality, with consistent maintenance and monitoring.
The certification comes as National Windscreens continues to invest heavily in its network of 108 fitting and calibration centres in the UK and the training and development of over 800 mobile technicians. This is in addition to its recent £3 million investment in ADAS calibration technology.
Colin McIntosh, a training and compliance manager at National Windscreens and who operates throughout the Scottish region said:
“Eco Stars allows us to highlight what we are doing regionally in our transport operations to reduce the impact on the environment. We’re continually looking for ways in which we can reduce overheads and environmental damage, so I am delighted to be awarded a certificate as we become members of this scheme.
“But we won’t stop here. We were recently awarded 4 stars, so our next goal is to achieve the top 5 star rating.”
