Embracing the Circular Economy: National Windscreens Recycles 100% of Replaced Glass

Today, we are celebrating the progress of our sustainability programme; our continued efforts to reduce our environmental impact; and focussing on the ambitious targets we have set ourselves for further improvement.

Sustainability is an integral part of who we are as a business and influences every decision we make. From production; transport; fitting to recycling, we recognise the importance of every piece of glass that we process.

100% of replaced glass is recycled

Craig Gibson, ESG manager at National Windscreens, said: “Glass is 100% recyclable, and we recycle every screen that is replaced. We understand the environmental impact of glass production, which is why we have embedded practices to recycle all damaged glass alongside a commitment to reduce our ecological footprint wherever possible.

“Every tonne of glass that we recycle removes the need to extract that amount of material - sand, soda ash, and limestone - from the earth’s resources. The recycled glass is used to manufacture products like building insulation, carpets and bottles. Our repair-first policy also ensures that our technicians will avoid replacing the glass whenever possible, we assess windscreen damage according to the new BSI safety standards.

“As a national business and a founding member of a global network in AGE (Automotive Glass Experts), we understand the importance of our managing the impact of our supply chains through scopes 1,2 and 3. Our latest sustainability report, which is close to being published, will further outline our progress and targets for the future. We will continue to innovate and lead in our glass recycling efforts, and drive towards a cleaner, and more sustainable future,” concludes Craig.
