National Windscreens opens new distribution centre in Glasgow

22 January 2020

National Windscreens has opened a regional distribution centre in Scotland, responding to continued significant growth and demand for an increasing number of windscreen variations. The new unit became operational last month and is located next door to National Windscreens’ Glasgow fitting and calibration centre, which is one of its largest facilities in Scotland.

The 10,000sq ft bespoke facility will supply National Windscreens’ nine fitting and Advanced Driver Assisted Systems (ADAS) calibration centres in Scotland. The new site will also facilitate daily deliveries from its warehouse in Pinxton, which holds over 11,000 product lines in its 70,000sq ft facility. The centre includes custom built racking systems, upgraded lighting and is supported by custom built vehicles, to ensure that all parts are completely protected during transit.

Six jobs have already been created as a result of this investment. This forms part of a nationwide recruitment campaign being conducted by the company to support its ongoing, ambitious growth plans. The investment comes as part of the company’s commitment to maintaining the UK’s largest fitting and ADAS calibration network of 108 centres and over 800 mobile technicians.

Andy Rae, regional director at National Windscreens said:

“We have invested in a new state of the art distribution centre to allow us to continue providing motorists with the highest possible level of service.

“The increase in the number of windscreen variations for vehicles is a factor driving this investment; we want to ensure we’re stocking as many variants as possible in the Scottish region, to meet customer demand.

“A combination of significant market growth and the development of windscreen and ADAS technology means we need more storage for glass replacement parts.”

National Windscreens has a unique windscreen selection system that makes sure the right glass is selected first time for a vehicle in 99.5% of cases. The new distribution centre then helps to ensure this glass is delivered to where it is needed in the quickest possible time.

For UK motorists, this means that a National Windscreens technician is on average never more than 20 minutes or 11 miles away.
